De Rosa Neo Primato – 2002
The story about the »De Rosa Neo Primato - 2002«
A 60cm Neo Primato built in 2002. Upon initial inspection I was happy with the frame. But there was an alignment problem with the tig-welded unicrown-style steel fork supplied. The online vendor, Competitive Cyclist, was successful in obtaining a replacement fork for me, a full-carbon model made by Mizuni. Though I'd prefer the steel fork that's now available, the Carbon fork was clearly better than the steel fork then offered, and much lighter too.
Bike was originally built-up with Super Record components from my fifteen year old bike. Fellow riders here in Wisconsin were shocked to discover friction shifters still in use - how old-fashioned, and only six cogs! A few years later parts were upgraded to Record and Chorus 10-speed parts. Indeed, only the original seat post is still used from the original assembly. I still get favorable comments on this bike for it's classic good looks. Now the only point of controversy seems to be the frame being made from steel, not carbon ...

De Rosa Professional SL – 1982
The story about the »De Rosa Professional SL – 1982«
The story is that I bought it off of Craigslist. It was really in poor shape, except the frame itself was mint under the grime. It was quite dirty and had not been maintained. I took apart every component on the bike. Degreased every part. Completely overhauled the bottom bracket, hubs, and headset. The pantographed stem had been repainted with a black heart as well as the fork crown and was chipped. I stripped the paint off of all the pantographed parts and repainted with a durable enamel (the kind used to paint street signs) including the detail on the fork crown. This would ensure the paint withstood the elements. The seatpost was stripped, polished and repainted. New bar tape, gum hoods, housing, and cables were all installed. What was once a sad looking and dirty DeRosa came back as a beautiful and rideable bicycle. I enjoyed restoring and tuning it up and it was time to pass it on to another rider and look for the next diamond in the rough.

The Story
The bike originally was purchased by a friend of mine who used to ride with us however he passed away from serious illness. We the group were all very close to him and his family. The bike lay in his garage for at least 2 years and I inquired about it. The bike color was originally purple in color. The offering from de Rosa in that model that year was plum and red. I went to see the bike and it broke my heart just seeing it there all dirty and decals coming off. I rescued the bike from his wife and immediately took everything apart. I had ever part screw everything professionally cleaned. The bike never really had many miles on it. I even had the hubs sent to Ray Dobbins in Florida to have them worked over and polished. Anyway then I had the frame sent to Cycle Arte in California and had it completely stripped and repainted. The paint job alone was $1,100.00. The bike came back PERFECT. Everybody stops and stares at it. The pearl white is just the best color for that bike. I have ridden the bike twice in two years and I think it has about 20 miles on it to date.
Les, thanks a lot and many greetings to USA!
